Volunteer Activities Council Spotlight - January

Tawna Pippin and her family moved to Daybreak in June of 2012 in search of lasting friendships and neighborhood schools for their kids. From their home, they can walk to the gym, up the hill to Soda Row to enjoy summer concerts or stroll around the lake. There is always something to do nearby and that is why they love where they live. Giving back to the community was important and volunteering has always been a family affair.

“We’ve created many joyful family memories putting centerpieces together, hanging lights, or tying up donuts for hours.”

Their first volunteer event was Fizz Fest and, since then, the Pippins have helped out at Trick or Treat Street, the Daddy-Daughter Dance, Masquerade Ball, Noon Year’s Eve, Lakeside Luau, Easter Egg Hunt and more. Their favorite events to help out with are ones at the Community Center. They are pros at decorating tables and stringing lights by now!

“It’s important my kids realize things don’t happen overnight and that many hands make light work. I hope they gain initiative, confidence and a strong work ethic through volunteering.”

Not only do the Pippins have fun helping with events, they also meet amazing people. They encourage families to consider time invested at just one event – 2 hours even – and add that to the memory tree. It’s time well spent!

“We look forward to continued happy memories being made among more Daybreak families for generations to come. I’m a believer we get out of something what we put into it.”
